Johnny Depp will star in a feature-film version of the 1960s vampire soap opera Dark Shadows, Variety reported.

Warner Brothers is teaming with Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and Graham King's GK Films to develop the movie.

Depp has said in interviews that he has always been obsessed with Dark Shadows and had, as a child, wanted to be Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series. The role was originated by Jonathan Frid.

A rights deal just closed with the estate of Dan Curtis, the producer/director who created the soap that aired weekdays on ABC, from 1966 to 1971. Depp and King will produce with David Kennedy, who ran Dan Curtis Productions until Curtis died last year of a brain tumor. Infinitum-Nihil's Christi Dembrowski served as the point person on the deal.

I am so looking forward to not getting up and going to the dentist tomorrow morning.  At least today I learned that even if I am breaking fillings, I am doing a good job brushing because my teeth were pretty good for a tea- and red wine-drinker who hadn't had her teeth cleaned in a few years.  Couple more cavities to get filled in September, and then I'll get fitted for a mouth guard.

Did you know that Angell Memorial accepts donations of used pacemakers?  When a person upgrades, the old one can be used for a large dog or other animal.  That's pretty cool.  I hope none of you are ever in a position to be replacing your pacemaker, but if you are, or if you have relatives who are, it's something to keep in mind.

I really want to see the movie Punk's Not Dead at the Brattle this weekend but I already have a million things I need to do.  Hopefully it will get wider distribution later, or come to DVD...
