Reminder: Hurricane Hafli, 9/25

I doubt that any regular readers of my journal need this reminder, but just in case...

The Northeast Belly Dance Association (Boston Chapter) is pleased to announce a benefit hafli (Arabic for party) to raise funds for the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. Over 20 of the Boston area's finest dancers will perform in a showcase of the variety of styles of modern belly dance. Prizes will be auctioned and in between sets the dance floor will be open for all to participate, with DJ badriyaz's husband spinning. The hafli will be held on Sunday, September 25 from 3:30pm to 7pm at the Dilboy VFW Post, 371 Summer Street, Somerville (Davis Square). Suggested minimum donation is $15.

As you may note, we had a slight DJ crisis resulting in no more Garabed but all's well that hopefully ends well :) We have a lot of really nice stuff for the raffles, from music to dvds to costume items to artwork, etc., etc. And I think the lineup of dancers is a really good one, a lot of variety in styles and music. We've had good publicity in several newspapers (apart from the Herald getting the date wrong, but at least they are running a correction today :-/ )And it goes without saying but I say it anyway, thanks a million, million, million to everybody who has helped in their own various ways to make this event happen!

LJ seems to be doing that a lot lately. Anyway, what I would suggest is just making a donation directly to the Red Cross in honor of the NBDA--we're having people who want to write checks at the event write them directly to the Red Cross so that we can get the money sent out right away without waiting for checks to turn around. Thanks for thinking of it!

Also, should I dress more bellydancery or not? I was thinking of wearing a long ruffled shirt and a crop top, but didn't want to compete with the dancers, but at the same time, wanted to be in theme.

I sent you an email to your gmail address with the program and time--a little before 3:30 should be fine.

I think dressy is good--you shouldn't be in like full costume with bra and belt or anything, but set apart from the rest of the audience is good.

Thanks for the help with the directions, we had alot of fun and everyone was nothing but nice to us :D we cant wait to do it again
