Apr. 4th, 2005 02:24 pmIliotibial Band Syndrome. I'm pretty sure that's what is wrong with my knee. It makes a lot of sense, given that since September or so I've been doing much more work with level changes using the knees while doing hip movements--I'm putting more stress on my iliotibial bands than they have previously experienced to date, considerably more than daily life would ever provide, and since my left side is consistently too tight all over, it's not keeping up with the increased demand. Well, at least now I know what to do for it, more ice, a collection of stretches, ibuprufin until my stomach can't take it any more.
I guess I can take a perverse sort of pride in getting all of these athletic injuries through my dancing--not that being injured is remotely a good thing, but at least it means I'm pushing myself to athletic levels in my dancing.
In good medical news, Ronan is a very healthy ferret, apart from his weight problem. We went to the vet on Saturday, because I wanted to be sure that there weren't any underlying medical issues related to his weight (which is a whopping 1450g, easily 300g heavier than Seti and at least 100g heavier than the vet would like to see). All his bloodwork came through within normal parameters, and he was very sweet to everybody. He didn't even make a peep at his rabies shot. So as we suspected, he is overweight because he overeats. This ferret seriously eats like a dog--if there's food in the bowl, he gorges until it's gone. I really, really don't want to have to cage either of them during the day to limit Ronan's feeding while making sure Seti gets enough to eat :-( He has been losing weight though, so hopefully that trend will continue. He got squirmy while we were waiting at the vet's to make sure he wouldn't have a vaccine reaction, so we took him outside to poop and discovered that he really likes being outside and that he's very good with the leash and harness. I'm thinking that as the weather gets nicer, we'll have some ferret excursions, once I can figure out some places without much trash and without unleashed dogs. The Decordova Sculpture park allows leashed pets, so that would be a nice place to take the boys exploring. Seti likes going outside, but after Pan had his distemper vaccine reaction and couldn't be vaccinated anymore, I didn't want to take Seti outside and risk him carrying distemper germs into the house (far-fetched, but it can happen).
