Upcoming performance schedule
Feb. 11th, 2005 09:45 amI am posting this nearly as much to keep things straight in my mind as to publicize it all...
Saturday, Feb. 12: I will be performing at Kabarett 16-Bit at the Zeitgeist Gallery with the Ominous Collective. More fusiony gothy pieces.
Sunday, Feb. 27: I will be performing with troupe Sarab at "BEDOUIN TENT, a Belly Dance Celebration", a Seyyide production. Dance concert and floor dancing. Dancers' Bazaar. Solo performances by Seyyide, guest dancer Susi, and Seyyide's troupe "Sarab", including solos by Badriya and Lilya. Location: Zeitgest Gallery, Cambridge St., Cambridge. Admission donation: $9. Seating limited to 50 people. Please, come and support this event! This is especially great for those of you who always want to come see shows and cannot make those late night club performanced. I'll be doing something fun and pop with the troupe, and I hope to do a spooky zar piece for my solo if all goes well.
Saturday, March 5: Performing with troupe Sarab at "Sacred Women II". This is Diosa's semi-annual South Shore show, and they decided to donate all proceeds to the Tsunami Victims of SE Asia through "Dance From the Heart" (Oxfam affiliated program, bellydancers all over the country are participating by holding similar events).
Time: 8:30PM. Location: Open Doors Power Yoga Studio, second floor, 65 Washington Street, Weymouth Landing, MA. Tickets are $10 at the door. Following the show is a party in the Lotus Lounge on the 3rd floor. All dances at this event will have to do with strong women, either as an abstract concept or in homage to specific strong women in history.
Sunday, March 6: Performing with troupe Sarab at "Dance from the Heart" Boston area fundraiser for tsunami survivors sponsored by Freyja. Location: Dante Alighieri Cultural Center, 41 Hampshire St., Cambridge, MA 02139. Time: 8PM (doors open at 7:30).A $15 minimum donation (per person) is requested. All proceeds from the benefit will go to Oxfam America's Tsunami Fund. Tickets can purchased at the door or requested in advance (until 02/27/05) by sending a check made out to Oxfam to the following address: Vanessa Naja, P.O. Box 381467, Cambridge, MA 02138. Please specify your name and the number of tickets requested. Tickets purchased in advance will be available at the door the day of the event. Not sure what we're performing yet, but I have to say I am very excited about the other dancers on the bill: Seyyide, Melina, Johara, and special guest Sharon Kihara from Rachel Brice's troupe The Indigo and Suhaila Salimpour's school of dance. Sharon will also be doing a two-day workshop on the 5th and 6th, to which I intend to drag my tired carcass if it kills me.
I'm also dancing at a private party on Feb. 19, but that won't be relevant to most people reading this. Then that's it until April, when Sarab is performing at a workshop hafli down the Cape. Busy busy!
