Jan. 24th, 2005 03:42 pmYOUR SENIOR YEAR OF HIGH SCHOOL
[What year was it?]
1986. eek.
[What were your three favorite bands?]
Bauhaus, Sonic Youth, Christian Death (hey, it was 1986, they were good then!). If I could pick four bands, I would add Alien Sex Fiend.
[What was your favorite outfit?]
pointy toed buckle boots, black leggings, oversized black t shirt, massive amounts of silver and black jewelry, long fishnet gloves, a ratty old widow's veil I bought at Arsenic and Old Lace.
[What was up with your hair?]
Buzzed short but not shaved on the sides with stripes shaved in, spiky bangs covering my eyes, spiked up about three inches on top and down the back of my neck. Can of Aqua Net extra super hold per week.
[Who were your best friends?]
I had a few best friends, some who I still see quite a lot now, some whom I've drifted away from. For some of the drifted, I do miss them. Others, i've met up with in recent years and wondered why we were ever friends in the first place.
[What did you do after school?]
Worked four days a week (first half of the year, at a catering company's store, second half of the year at a silk and dried flower shop at the Charles Square mall. I have no idea why they hired me, see favorite outfit and hair above. It was a good job though because I could do all my homework while working). The other day of the week I took private violin lessons.
[Did you take the bus?]
Oh yes. I still do.
[Who did you have a crush on?]
A boy who turned out to be gay.
[Did you fight with your parents?]
Not very much. Sometimes my mom would get upset about my outfits, but generally we got along quite well.
[Who did you have a CELEBRITY crush on?]
Daniel Ash, Daniel Ash, Daniel Ash. Daniel Ash.
[Did you smoke cigarettes?]
No.
[Did you lug all of your books around in your backpack all day because you were too nervous to find your locker?]
No. But that's only because the group of us who were likely to be harassed at our lockers moved en mass to an abandoned bank of lockers near the performing arts department.
[Did you have a 'clique'?]
Yeah, the people in black performing arts freaks sort of clique. I was able to be friends with other people in my classes, though.
[Did you have "The Max" like Zach, Kelly and Slater?]
I think I am too old to know the answer to that question.
Edited to add: i take it from other people's entries that this means a special hangout place. We hung out at Hubba Hubba on Saturday afternoons. Suzy and Liza were very kind to us, as I'm sure they could have gotten in trouble for allowing teenagers to hang out at their shop. Maybe we were good for business, I don't know.
[Admit it, were you popular?]
No, not in the usual high school sense.
[Who did you want to be just like?]
I quote
iterum, because he said it so well: "Hmm. Like everyone else, I'm pretty sure I had an ill-defined contempt for anyone I wasn't already just like." Barring that, I thought it would be pretty cool to be Kim Gordon, suave yet tough bass playing chick in a wild sea of cacophony.
[What did you want to be when you grew up?]
An archaeologist, more specifically an Egyptologist. I sent off for an application to the American University in Cairo which my mom promptly confiscated from me and said "oh no you're not" when it arrived.
[Where did you think you'd be at the age you are now?]
Certainly not living in my hometown. Otherwise, I don't think I had thought that far ahead. Might have been better if I had. I do think though that senior year of high school me would be pretty satisfied seeing current me, if she could look into the future.

Date: 2005-01-24 02:17 pm (UTC)The silk and dried flower shop was a cool place to hang out--the entire ceiling was covered with hanging bouquets of miniature roses, and it was very cozy. After my catering company job ended (the owner disappeared abruptly, she owed the mob money), I swore I would never again do food service! (later in college I did work at a coffeeshop, but there was no cooking involved there)
Blast from the past
Date: 2005-01-24 04:49 pm (UTC)Wow! I haven't thought of them in a long time. :)
I think that's cute that you hung out at Hubba Hubba! I remember being kind of terrified the first time I went in there :)
