Jan. 12th, 2005 12:10 pmThe upstairs neighbors shoveled this morning! Wonders will never cease!
Yesterday I walked to the Indonesian sandwich shop for a grilled eggplant sandwich. When I got back to my office, I discovered that rather than giving me eggplant they had given me the fruit of the egg instead. The shop was too far away for me to go back and get my eggplant and I was very hungry, so I ate the chicken. I am sorry, chicken. You did taste good, though. And my body reacted in a surprisingly revitalized way, which maybe I should take as an indicator that I need more protein in my diet.
On Monday night, I was told that my zill playing detracts from my dancing. Ouch. I know my zills suck, even though I've made a lot of progress with them. It's frustrating because I do think of myself as a rather musical person, but good zill playing eludes me. I can play a steady rhythm and I can keep time, but I slap them together in a way that makes a harsh and jarring sound. Maybe I am just an industrial zill player and should go bellydance for Neubauten* or someone. Or I could practice more. That might help. Next time the neighbor kids upstairs are stampeding like wildebeests, I'll practice zills.
I am excited for the ManRay performance on Friday (I'll post something more official about that later) but my body aches all over and I feel kinda hippopotamus-esque. I should just get over it and get on with the dancing. I did get a tricky step pretty quickly in class last night, I feel good about that. I may even use it on Friday.
*this isn't as strange as it sounds--Alex Hacke has been playing bass for the Turkish band Baba Zula recently, they have bellydancers. I have one of their albums, Psycho-Belly Dance Music, mixed by the Mad Professor. It's pretty darn good, if a little funkified for my tastes at time. Alex Hacke should take care of that.
