The laptop and the router feel like conversing tonight, so I am
Now *that* is a Wade (and Amanda) Robson number! Great music choice with a lot of depth and meaning to it and real challenges for the dancers. I like that it's hard to tell the women apart with their hair pulled back and matching outfits, it levels one's perceptions of them.
I didn't really agree with the judges on Ashleigh and Jakob's lyrical hip hop number; it was good, but it wasn't extraordinary. They were off at times and their movements weren't always that committed. I'm sadly not surprised that Kevin and Karen are in the bottom three as they were pretty flat, but she is one of my favorites so I keep my fingers crossed. I don't think Kevin's really making the same kind of progress some of the other male dancers are so he might be in real danger.
Eleanor and Ryan were very moving, but I think his dancing has regressed a little. I expect they'll be safe. Russell and Noelle were nice in their foxtrot and deserve to stay. You have to admire Russell's determination, and Noelle was just lovely. They did really look like they were having fun, and that's really rather huge. The blackbird number by Victor and Channing was my favorite by far of the night, I hope America gets it... nope, I guess not. The judges really didn't help them with their commentary last night about not liking the music. (sidenote: glad somebody finally groomed Victor's eyebrows, they were distracting.)
Mollee and Nathan, the little kids, had a routine that suited them well and they could be fine. Legacy and Kathryn's paso doble... Legacy poses very well, some of his body language was spot on, but he might hitting his limits, I'm not sure. Kathryn danced circles around him, literally and figuratively. I hadn't really noticed her much before but now I think she's one to keep an eye on. If she survives... hey, she does! I guess the teenage girls of America like the sexy more than the sweet these days.
ooh, real Bollywood! I'm glad it's so well received by the audience and is getting legitimate dance treatment. I know this was a special mission of Nigel's over the last couple of years, breaking Bollywood/Indian traditional dance into the Western dance mainstream, and maybe he's succeeding.
Solos:
Karen: frakkin' rock and roll, man! I love her more and more and will be seriously pissed if she's off.
Kevin: don't think that was very strong
Channing: she's usually so strong but tonight doesn't seem very solid on her feet. Was that a near mis-step? She looks tense.
Victor: hate the music but he is beautiful. can't imagine him being sent home on the basis of that!
Mollee: that was gymnastic. pretty strong. her smaller movements lose some definition, she hasn't learned to take her time yet and rushes to fit too many things into the beat.
Nathan: probably proficient enough.
My decision would be Kevin and Channing to go home, but what do I know...
I have no comment on the musical act.
No, wait, I have a comment. The musical act is wretched.
Ad for V-66 show, wow. That brings back memories.
No surprise about Mollee, the judges love her. Yay, Karen stays!!! Sorry for our Massachusetts homegirl Channing, but it was the right choice.
Again no surprise about Nathan, the judges love him too. Aw, poor Kevin, he's hearing the writing on the wall. And here it is. I'm sorry he didn't do more, I would have liked to have seen more.
So I guess I did know something after all. Victor and Karen as partners, hm. Kevin and Karen hugging is making me a little misty eyed.
And that's that. I haven't been able to keep up with my commentaries due to Raks Spooki madness and work, but I am enjoying the season so far. I do feel like it's too soon after the last season though.
I'm very glad I bought that iPod. I was never unhappy with the sound quality of my Creative Zen Sleek, but the iPod Classic's sound is noticeably better. Can you delete tracks from the iPod, without going through the computer to do it? I haven't figured out how to do that yet. I wasn't thrilled with the initial import procedure as I wanted more control than it gave me. But that's a small quibble. I'm very happy with the new device.

Date: 2009-11-19 03:58 pm (UTC)I think Karen does what she does well, but I imagine her versatility is beginning to show. I have to say I wanted her gone this week. But that might have to do more with the fact that...
I'm upset that Channing was cut. I think she was a really strong dancer and was just starting to come out of her shell. If she was given the opportunity, I think she might have gone all the way.
Kevin was the right choice. He really wasn't growing like the rest of them.
Also, I keep wanting to dislike Legacy (he rubbed me the wrong way in the beginning) but he's actually getting pieces that are just a stretch enough that he can grow into it but not so much that he's going to suck all over himself. Also - I think if he wasn't able to be the intensity that he did to the Pasa doble he would have been screwed.
Oh, and Legacy's partner as well as Noelle - I thought I would not like them at all, but man are they good dancers!
It would be interesting to see how each season would hold up to each other. I wonder if more dancers from Seasons 3, 5, & 6 would be on the higher end of the scale.

Date: 2009-11-19 04:32 pm (UTC)I would have liked to have seen more of Channing, but her solo was physically weak, to the point where I worried about her a bit.
I've had the same reaction to Legacy--at the very first it was OMG he's great, then quickly it was OMG he's overhyped and annoying, but now he's growing on me.
