We raised a fuss back in jr. high, because we were getting targeted by the principals for wearing ripped jeans to school, at a time where the 8th grade fashion was stilettos with bobby socks and micro-mini skirts. We argued that although we dressed "sloppy" in our ripped jeans, combat boots and black t-shirts, we were more appropriately dressed than the other 14-yo in mini skirts. The argument didn't fly.
