reasonable news
Jan. 22nd, 2009 01:40 pmHeard from the vet. Ianto's looking perky and eating and is cleared to come home tonight. His blood glucose is up to 66, which is not awesome at all but on the positive side, he got it there himself, as they never had to give him the IV dextrose after all. He did get IV fluids, since he was a bit dehydrated. He's running a fever so he's on amoxy for a week or so. Possibly the fever took away his appetite and that's why he had the crash. We will be increasing his pred dosage again; he'll be at about 2/3 the max dose for his weight, so there's still room to go up. The doctor feels it's still effective, though of course we'll be monitoring him. The bad thing about the pred is that it suppresses his immune system, which is why we get these fevers and gastrointestinal issues. And then of course both the pred and the antibiotics are rough on the stomach lining, so we have to be vigilant to prevent ulcers. It's all a delicate balancing act. But, the short term news is good, and we'll have him home in a few hours. Sisiutl will be relieved, she's still looking for him.
glad to hear it !
