alonewiththemoonTonight I planned to sit on the couch and watch Lost.
I did not plan to find Ianto in a hypoglycemic seizure when I went to give him his evening medication, but that is what I found. So we have spent the evening at Angell Memorial. Ianto will be spending the night there being monitored and given dextrose as necessary, and his vet will see him first thing in the morning. His blood sugar when admitted was 47, and that was after I rubbed honey on his gums and convinced him to eat a little duck soup and after getting his prednisone, so presumably it was lower than that when I found him drooling and twitching in his hammock.
Possibly he just needs his prednisone dose increased, but since we just recently did that, I worry that it is losing its effectiveness. There is another medication we can try, diazoxide, but it's pretty rough on their guts.
I remind myself that we knew these things were coming, and that he's been having a great life. He'll continue to have that great life for a while; this isn't the end, hopefully not even close to it. But it is a reminder that the end is always just around the corner with this one.
Sissy is looking for him everywhere. It's rather breaking my heart.
