Very happy that Joshua won--my pulse was pounding with the suspense, because judging from the studio audience all the teenage girls love Twitch, and that definitely could have swung the vote.  I think it's why he did better than Katee in the ranking, but I was very happy to see the deserving Joshua get the win.

I didn't count it out, but it seemed to me like Katee was in far more of the judges' favorite routines than anyone else, which says a lot.  I think she would have won if it had been up to them.  Though to be fair, since she was in the competition for longer than most of the others, she got to be in more numbers.  I'm very happy for her that she got that prize money, and I'm sure she'll go on to do great things.

I enjoyed seeing the dancers reprise their past performances with their new maturity and ability.  At one point Twitch and Will were dancing next to each other in a group number; Will is just so much clearly better it brought home the injustice all over again (I swear I'm not a Twitch hater, I do like his dancing and personality, but he's a creation of the show in many ways).  Seeing Mark again I was reminded of just how really good he is.  I could totally see him joining Cirque du Soleil as a dancer. 

And speaking of Cirque du Soleil, the "Homage to all the Rabbits who Have Died At the Hands of Incompetent Magicians" was amazing!  Wade Robson + Cirque + dark gothy sensibility = swoon.  It was very Donnie Darko/demented Alice in Wonderland.  M and I have been talking about when we might go back to Vegas, and as a result of seeing this we would make a point of catching the Criss Angel:  Believe show if we do go back, despite not being Criss Angel fans at all.  Miss Edrie, if you are reading this, it made me think so much of you guys!

Nigel can actually dance, look at that.  He had several feet of intestines removed due to illness earlier this year, so I genuinely am impressed.  The kids were very cute, and he seemed to have a genuine rapport with them.  Mary looked like a dancer past her prime, but hey, I couldn't do half the stuff she did, so more power to her.  With young Dmitri as her partner it could have been titled "Ode to a Cougar" ;-)  (btw I read recently that according to the NYT it only takes a five year difference in a relationship for a woman to count as a cougar, so I'm nearly there myself--again, more power to her)

The popping throwdown was insane.  Both were great but Robert Muraine is totally freak of nature over the top.  Also, that is cool that Kanye West sampled Kraftwerk.  It was nice to see the previous seasons' dancers but I missed seeing Sabra :-(  Glad so many of them are out and working though!


Every night I give the ferrets a supplement called Duck Soup.  There are no ducks in it; it's based on a recipe that was made for a ferret named Lucky Duck, and so ferret people now call any gloppy supplement Duck Soup.  I finally ran out of the supply the shelter had given us, so I made up a new batch last night, guessing at the proportions of ingredients and leaving out one that I thought was too high in sugar for Ianto.  I felt strangely jittery while doing this and then realized--I was worried the ferrets wouldn't like my cooking!  Happily, they seemed to like it just fine, and now I feel like an accomplished Duck Soup maker.

I am glad I do not need to explain Criss Angel, but yeah--if it is like the rabbit homage, I think I would enjoy it immensely.

yeah, he's just ick. His show is at the Luxor, where we stayed in Vegas, and in one of the hotel gift shops there were all these women, how shall I describe them, representing the lowest common denominator in US culture going on about how totally hot he was and how if he were in Vegas they'd be camped out on his tour bus.

Also a cab driver we had told us that his girlfriend in all seriousness believed that Criss Angel was Satanic following his stunt in the Luxor's beam of light. He said it in a somewhat world weary way that implied yeah, my girlfriend believes in Satanic possession, but what are you gonna do.

I was worried the ferrets wouldn't like my cooking!

Here, I suddenly saw two ferrets sitting impatiently before a checkered tablecloth, wearing lobster bibs.

It's almost like that, the way they dance around my feet when I'm carrying the dish of stuff out to them. Metaphorically they are banging their forks and knives on the table ;-)
