We went to see Persepolis last night--I assumed I would like it, since I liked the books so much, but I was completely astounded by the film. It was by turns horrifying and heart warming but ultimately so very, very human, and resulted in hours of conversation afterwards. Marjane Satrapi's drawing style lent itself perfectly to the screen; I dreamed in its images last night. It was all hand drawn, on tracing paper rather than cels. I can't recommend the film highly enough. I think I experienced it on such an emotional level it's hard to come up with many words about it. Just go see it, that's all.
When a city declares a snow emergency, don't you think a major university in that city should declare a snow day so that its employees aren't cluttering up the roadways? I certainly do. Apparently the major university that employs me does not, however. Getting here wasn't that bad, although waiting for the bus this morning felt like this:
