make your own bat wings!
Oct. 31st, 2007 11:33 amit's too late for this year, but next year I want to make my own anatomically correct bat wings!
I watched the Studio Ghibli-produced Pom Peko last night. I can just imagine all the Disney studio execs scratching their heads over how to market that one. "Well, it's got cute raccoons, and a big environmental message, but..." I guess it is not strange in a Japanese children's movie to feature characters with metamorphing testicles with which the characters can whomp people, make parachutes, provide temporary shelter, etc., but it would be rather strange in American children's movies. They aren't actually raccoons but rather raccoon dogs or tanuki. It's not up there with the best work to come out of Ghibli, but it's well worth watching, especially if you are curious about Japanese folklore. I had known a little about the shape changing foxes and their stories, but I didn't know anything about the tanuki.
