This weekend I didn't do any dancing, giving myself the weekend off for the first time in who knows how long. I did do some dance-related stuff, but not actual movement apart from yoga. This was a weekend for my other creative endeavors to come out and play. Saturday night I went to a party hosted by local musicians and spent much of it sitting on the floor playing zills while people made up music around me. There was a tabla player who knew what he was doing, so our rhythm section was strong, if I do say so myself. A lot of people asked questions about the zills, saying they never realized they were really an instrument and not just little clapper things. So I got to do some educating.
I also did some singing, with an actual microphone and everything! It's fun to hear yourself through the speakers and know that it's you making that noise. Well, it's fun when the noise is right, anyway. It's been a long time since I've done any singing so my upper range was a bit squeaky but I was surprised to find how much more depth and control I had in my lungs. Another benefit of yoga! At one point I was holding a note and I could hear somebody else in the room singing it too, and I thought to myself "well, let's see if I can hold this as long as the trained singers in the room can." After a while, I wondered if the note was ever going to end as I was running short on air, which is when I realized that other voice was *me*, through the amplifier. No, I cannot outsing myself, though that would be a neat trick. I don't want to start up any other creative endeavors at the moment, but it was nice to feel like there's something else that I'm good at that I could go after if I wanted/had the time.
Sunday was lazy, I chopped down most of the basil and made a big batch of pesto. I didn't measure any of the ingredients and it turned out delicious. I also took a blue veil that had some spots on it and tye-died it into an intense black and electric blue radiating circle design. I said to M, "I'm going to dye a veil," and he looked at me somewhat shocked. "You're going to die of ale?" he asked. "Well, no," I relied, "there's only lager in the house. But if you went and got me some ale, I could give it a good shot!" Har, har. I really like the way the veil turned out. Unfortunately it's China "silk," that nylon stuff that is silk-like in texture but not in float and flow, but I should still be able to use it for some kinds of performances.
Seti woke me up in the middle of the night by grooming my elbow. Apparently my elbow was not up to ferret standards of cleanliness. Silly noodle. I think he was a bit depressed for a few months after we lost Ronan, but he's come out of it now, he's very playful and he's very responsive to us. I think he's transferred the way he would interact with other ferrets completely over to us--hence the grooming :-)
