In other news, I am teaching myself how to use Audacity. Sound waves are nifty! I'm actually learning stuff about drum solos just by magnifying the sound wave display and watching it roll by as I listen. I told Za-Beth this weekend that I would do the Diva Pageant (she said good, you're at exactly the right place in your growth as a dancer for it) (she's actually seen me a lot over the last two years, and I have grown quite a bit, I think), so now I am obsessing about the music. I've got a 1:55 intro and a 2:14 drum solo, now I just have to fill in the six or so minutes in between, there being a ten minute time limit. There is a song I really want to use that is just about six minutes long, but perhaps I should work in another prop besides my entrance veil, most likely cane. I bet I can create a one minute cane piece and edit the other song down a little, but then I'm not sure that it won't feel too frantic. Guess I can try it and see...

damn wireless just ate my comment.

I was saying, just b/c you have 10 mins time limit, you don't have to dance for a full ten minutes...sometimes less is more---do what YOU do best, play up on your strengths, and leave them wanting more...7-8 minutes is really good for.

The problem is that I really want 12 minutes to play with :-) But I think I will stick with the less is more approach and just use the one song plus intro and drum, no cane. If I hear anything about not using enough props, I'll look down my nose at the person asking me and regally say "My dancing does not need propping." The contest is called the Diva Pageant, after all ;-)
