Troupe Sarab is expanding
Sep. 7th, 2004 11:11 amMy dance troupe is looking to expand--if you are in the area and have the prerequisite 8 months of dance experience, I hope you'll consider joining! If you're not available that particular weekend, I am sure Seyyide can be flexible about scheduling another time. I know some of you are just starting or re-starting classes, so you can also file this away for future reference if interested :-)
I can tell you that we are a nice bunch of women to work with, pretty ego- and drama-free :-) Feel free to ask me any questions you might have--I've been with the troupe since its inception in 2001. This would be largely cabaret style, not tribal.

Seyyide is calling for auditions to join her Troupe "Sarab/Mirage".
Dancers and dance students with at least 8 months regular training are encouraged to participate.
Hello Dancers and Dance Students
I want to invite everyone to join my troupe "Sarab/Mirage". The troupe was founded in 2001 and we have been working regularly ever since. See www.seyyide.com/sarab.asp for a bit more info.
THE AUDITION
Date: sometime during the wekeend of September 25-26 (will precise schedule soon when I have an estimation of the number of participants)
What you should prepare:
- Choose a 2 minute piece of music (could be the first two minutes of any song) and be ready to present that (choreographed or improvised, your choice)
- Perform your piece, dressed in a costume of your choice (as simple or as fancy as you wish). Don't forget makeup and choosing your hair style.
- Finally, I'll have the group try a routine together.
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A MEMBER OF SARAB?
- You need to be available sometimes for rehearsals. Schedule for rehearsals is usually agreed on according to availability of the participants and needs according to the events coming up. Usually we can meet on Monday evening or weekend afternoons.
- Don't think you need to be a pro to participate, I need dancers of different levels. Level means which level of complexity you can take, however, your execution of the dance in your level should be as clean and polished as possible.
- Participants of Sarab should be able to come to classes with Seyyide at least twice a month, for technique and training, each dancer shall come to class in her own level.
- Although costuming is usually simple, and we try to use and reuse pieces that we already have, I don't have a budget for a troupe wardrobe yet, so you may have to spend some money in putting a costume together. The most expensive costume that we've made for the troupe is a silk set that costed $150, but we often manage to put something together with about $40-80.
WHAT IS IN FOR YOU?
This is mostly an amateur group at the moment, although we started getting some professional gigs recently. However, you shouldn't expect to make much money out of this at the moment (I've paid my dancers $20 a piece recently when I got their first modestly paid gig). When you compare that to what you get in some restaurant in the area for a solo performance, you can see that it's not too bad. But we don't always have paid gigs, so you cannot count on that.
You will get to work with me closely, and join a small but very enthusiastic an collaborative group of dancers, we support each other and that makes the best of each one come out.
REGISTRATION
To audition, you should let me know that you'll participate as soon as possible, and you will need to fill in and send back the attached form by September 17th. [since i'm forwarding her email, there is no attached form here, but you can email her at the address below if interested]
If you have any specific questions, please contact me back soon.
All the best
