Via Emusic, I picked up an album by the Kurdish singer Aynur, featured in Crossing the Bridge, that Fatih Akin documentary about Turkish music and musicians.  Just listened to it once and it's so good I'm putting it right back on again.  That voice just gets me...  She sounds a bit like a slightly more strident Azam Ali.  Maybe strident isn't the right word, maybe it's just that there's more heartbreak and history and resilience in her voice.  Although she denies being a political singer, and by the substance of her lyrics she is correct, her existence as a Kurdish woman singing in Kurdish in Turkey is inherently politicized.  Regardless, it's beautiful music.

Seti was very cute last night.  Every few weeks I have to sort through bags of kibble to separate out the one kind the ferrets are supposed to be eating (before that directive came from the vet, I had mixed many pounds of different kinds of kibble together and put them in ziplock freezer bags, sigh, and the stuff is expensive enough that it's worth separating).  So as I sorted, Seti showed up at my feet, undoubtedly drawn by the smell of the kibble.  Even though he has his own bowl of kibble in the bedroom, he happily sat by me eating individual pieces of kibble from my hand for quite some time.  I swear he was saying "oh yes, I have kibble back there, but it tastes better when you give it to me!"  I'm sure he appreciated the attention, at any rate.

Looking forward to dancing on Sunday night, I feel like it's been too long.  I'm glad I feel that way.  I stayed late at work last night to practice my zils after everyone left, and that went fine.  Wish I might have a chance to dance and play zils at the same time before Sunday, but if the neighbors don't take their baby out over the weekend, that may not happen as I'm paranoid about scaring the baby or just generally disturbing them.  The soundproofing between our apartments really isn't bad, but I think the sound of zils can penetrate through poured concrete.

Can't believe Thanksgiving is less than a week away.  Where has this fall gone?
