best birthday present

alonewiththemoonRonan came through his exploratory surgery just fine and is resting comfortably right now. The surgical team didn't see anything out of the ordinary--no more hairballs--and did the biopsies that will now be sent off to a lab for analysis. Since all the organs looked ok, I'm suspecting that we'll get a positive diagnosis for IBD. Then we can start treatment for that and get all this behind us. We can go visit him tonight; he'll be groggy but hopefully he will be aware enough to appreciate the attention. Happily the current exotics vet techs really like ferrets, so I'm sure he's being constantly reassured--still, there's nobody like people from home. We should be able to bring him home tomorrow afternoon or evening if he continues to do well. His blood pressure did drop during surgery, but they were able to stabilize him quickly so it shouldn't be an issue (maybe it dropped because of that slight stenosis of the right aortic cavity, I don't know).
We met a woman in the waiting room who knew the meaning of the name Ronan and remarked that he was indeed a little seal and perfectly named. Soon my little seal will be home again! Seti is definitely looking for him.
I think I will be able to actually relax and enjoy my birthday dinner tonight. Probably take one Cuchi Cuchi drink to put me under the table, though.
