I sent off that mink stole of my grandmother's yesterday.  It made me very sad.  I was sad for the little minks, I was sad for the orphan animals that the stole will be comforting, and I was sad to feel like I was sending something of my grandmother's away.  I'm not at all sure that she wouldn't feel rather horrified to know that her stole was going to be used as animal bedding, but on the other hand, she might have gotten a kick out of the idea.  I don't think I ever saw her wear it, so maybe she was ambivalent about fur herself. The stole will bring some animals comfort though, and so this was the best thing to do with it.

In case anybody else has fur stuff that they want to dispose of in a respectful manner that does not contribute to the demand for furs, here's a link to the Humane Society's Coats for Cubs program.  They'll take anything, even fur-lined gloves (which I would imagine would be just perfect little sleeping spots for tiny animals) and collar trim. This is awesome! Thank you for the link; I've passed it along to my mom, who inherited a skunk coat from her grandmother that has sat unused in her closet for her entire life.
