Here's a nice review of Natacha Atlas' new album Mish Maoul, which happily provides song title translations and a basic gist of what some of the songs are about. This bit at the end very much intrigued me:
Fashionably post-modern, Atlas thinks in projects. On her plate now is a cover of “Whatever Lola Wants” for a film by the Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch about an American bellydancer in Egypt (Atlas, a former bellydancer herself, describes the plot with relish)...
IMDB has just this for info: A New York postal worker travels to Egypt to take belly dancing lessons from a legendary instructor. And Natacha is the only cast member so far. But it sounds super intriguing!
