I am torn between wanting to treat this day just like any other and wanting to obsessively check cnn.com etc to see what might be happening and how people are remembering.

I managed to renew my liscense this morning, finally.  Apparently the Cambridgeside Galleria branch of the Registry of Motor Vehicles is not high on any terrorist hit list.  I liked the first take of my photo and said I didn't need a second one, but now that I look at it later I wish I had done another.  Oh well.  I was able to pass the vision test without my glasses again.  This isn't really a good thing, because I would certainly never drive without my glasses, and I don't like knowing that there are people with vision like mine and probably a bit worse out there driving.  But at least i know my eyesight hasn't really deteriorated in the past five years.

The wedding on Saturday was wonderful to behold; the couple are just perfectly suited and perfectly happy.  It was also wonderful to see so many people in one place again--it was just like old times, only now we are all a bit older and more in control of our lives and by and large a bit less drama-ridden, and so it felt like a very peaceful and peaceable gathering.

There was a hawk flying about (or possibly a turkey vulture, it was quite large) just before the ceremony, and it made me think of what a college friend told me.  His mother was from one of the Hopi Pueblos, where he pretty much grew up, and he said that according to her and her people, it's good luck to see a hawk when you are setting out on a journey.  If getting married isn't setting out on a journey, I don't know what is, so I am sure the hawk was a sign of all good luck for B&E :-)
