I just called Dahlal to make sure my assuit dress is being made, because I haven't been receiving the monthly invoices I should have been receiving since I placed the order in April--it is indeed underway, and it will be ready in July! Apparently Dahlal herself is over in Egypt right now supervising a whole fleet of custom orders, and will be bringing them all back with her when she returns to the US in July. I'm so excited, my own custom costume! And then once I have it, I can order the next one! ;-) I am liking the lines of Egyptian Empress, if not neccessarily that particular color, though I must not forget about having Shadia make something--it would be about the same cost, but with a genuine custom fit, with actual fittings.
I am feeling very costume-limited right now. The costume that seems good for the set I have planned for this Sunday at the Middle East is the same as I wore the last time I was there, and I don't want to wear the same thing two performances in a row. The assuit dress would be perfect, sigh. Well, I'll figure something out. Maybe the bra and belt of my leopard costume with my purple skirt and sleeves... That's so crazy it just might work. I'm also very frustrated by the Turkish character of my bedleh, but that's what's generally available here. Not that Turkish costumes aren't pefectly lovely in their own right, but they aren't right for the music I use. I suppose that a good portion of the audience has no idea about any of it, but still, I *know*, and I know that there are audience members who know as well, so it bugs me.
I am somewhat better able to breathe today, but I am still pretty huffy. I don't think I'm sick, I think it is just allergies. Trying to avoid Ventolin but I've had to use it a couple of times this week, as opposed to my regular usage of once in a blue moon (once the restaurant/nightclub/bar smoking ban went into effect, anyway). I'm glad it's been cool enough to sleep with the windows closed and the air cleaner on at night.
Oh, in case anybody reading this is interested and doesn't already know about it, Bellyqueen, a belly dance/urban dance fusion troupe, will be performing in Boston on July 21, along with some New York poppers and sundry others. There is a boy in the belly dance troupe! If interested, more info can be found here. I've got tickets already for the 9:30 show :-)
