Nov. 8th, 2005 05:59 pmI bought the Qntal remix album Illuminate--all remixes by Qntal, of Qntal songs. I quite liked the remixes at the end of Qntal IV and I guess was expecting more along the same lines. I've only listened to about half the album, and I'm sad to say I only loved half of that--so a quarter so far. I realized as I listened that I am so done with EBM. The remixes with an EBM feel sound stale and dated, and they lose that amazing medieval vitality that is really Qntal's great strength, their ability to take the old music and recapture the rapture that its original listeners must have felt just as we feel it today, ad mortem festinamus then as now. And why subjugate the delicate complexity of that music to the oontz-oontz-oontz, thereby flattening it out and commodifying the emotional content? So yeah. That's not to say I'm jumping on any I hate EBM bandwagon or anything, but it was definitely a phase, to be looked back upon with affection and nostalgia while moving along to more lasting things.
I am looking forward to seeing/hearing Amber Benson at the BU Barnes & Noble tonight, but I really wish Tara's song from Once More with Feeling would get out of my head.
Is it really only Tuesday?
