While I was winning awards with Sarab, my parents and grandmother were being hit by a truck in the outskirts of Scranton, PA. Luckily the only damage done was to the car, which might be totalled but all things considered they were very lucky. There were also witnesses around ready to testify that it was not remotely my dad's fault. I get the feeling that the driver of the truck was a local known for his aggressive driving so people were all too happy to defend my dad. I am very, very glad that they are all ok!

Sunday I went to the Lulu Sabongi workshop--that woman is amazing. This workshop is going to mean a lot to me in my dancing; the way she could break down Egyptian internal movement was perfect. Things that I knew on an intellectual level I finally *got* on a physical level, and the way she explained certain principles of movement just made lightbulbs float in the air around me. By the end of the workshop I found myself passionately wishing she was going to be around for longer or that she would move to Boston. She was also such a warm, giving human being--no wonder so many super dancers come out of Brazil if she is training them all! I'll have lots more to say about the workshop as I'm writing a review of it for Middle Eastern Dance in New England, but for now, wow. I am still buzzing with excitement from it all!

So, the contest concluded Badriya's Insane Fall Performance Schedule of 2005. I've come out of it feeling pretty good--there's plenty of wear and tear on the body, but nothing that I can't recover from (though I'm certainly glad I stepped on that glass sliver on Saturday night and not Friday night). And I'm quite sure I'm a better dancer for it. But gosh am I glad to be returning to a regular schedule of the Middle East a couple of times a month and the odd hafli here and there. Maybe I will even see my friends again!

Watched the animated version of Boondocks on Cartoon Network last night. It has potential, but this first episode was a little too all over the place. A few moments were very funny though.

Hey, my phone's gone dead. That's a little inconvenient.

Forgot to mention in my last post--there was a great article about Bauhaus in the Globe on Sunday. Exactly what I've been thinking for years!
