A story was posted in the Ferret Mailing List today about a mother ferret whose youngsters had recently weaned but was still producing milk who took in a litter of orphaned baby rabbits. Here's an insanely adorable picture of the mother and kits. It goes to show, I think, that predatory instincts aren't necessarily stronger than maternal or nurturing instincts, which is a rather nice thing to hear. Although hopefully those little baby bunnies raised on ferret milk didn't grow up to be cannibals.

Seti is at Angell waiting for his ultrasound now. He was pretty nervous in the waiting room and it tore me up to leave him there. But it's what we need to do...

Seti is home now, inspecting the entire house to make sure everything is just as he left it. He is sporting a very fashionable and practical crew cut on his belly--for once, one of my ferrets had the good sense to require shaving in the summer months rather than the winter. The news is about as good as can be; his right adrenal is at the larger end of normal, but still normal, and the left is what it should be. No signs of prostate problems, so that's a very good thing. The conclusion is that he is most likely showing early signs of adrenal gland disease, but it's too soon to go in and do surgery at this point. So he'll be getting Lupron shots to combat the effects of the hormones being released into his system by the erratically-functioning right adrenal gland, and we'll keep an eye on him for any signs that the adrenal is worsening. So, not miraculous news, but not terrible news either.
