I held out for two and a half days before eating any office candy. Boredom + tiredness + desire for something that remotely satisfies me in even some small way = chocolate.

Yesterday I saw the office that we are moving to over the next week. It's actually pretty nice, and has much more character and air of academia than our current offices--leaded and frosted glass windows, wood panelling, hardwood floors. Brand new air conditioning too, so there goes that worry. It's close to the Kenmore stop, so now the number of trains I can take has tripled. And there may well be enough room for me to not share an office--not only that, but if I get the office I have my eye on, I'd have some leeway for playing music or npr or whatever. So, not too bad. However, with the increasing irrelevance of my office, I kinda wonder how much longer our current budget will last. Maybe once we're out of sight, we'll be out of mind. Not that I'm crazy about my job, and I have a sneaking suspicion that as our staff shrinks I will be less and less crazy about it, but I don't hate it and I certainly don't want to lose it.

I spent fifty fricking dollars for a DVD of our Eastern Journey performance in June, and it doesn't work. The price was high because it was being professionally edited from a couple camera feeds, so I have some understanding of why it was so expensive, things made in small runs cost more. But for $50, I should not receive an unlabeled DVD-R that doesn't work in any of my equipment. Even the multi-read drive in my computer does not play it--it doesn't even see that there's a disc in the drive. When I get home tonight I'll dig up the DVD player manual and see if there's any way to get it to play. The DVD player does play VCDs and other formats, so I hold out some hope. But if I'd known it was a DVD-R, I never would have agreed to buy one for $50, I would have bought the videotape for $35. We are planning to get a VCR/DVD-R combo around christmas time when everything goes on sale, but I'd rather not wait that long to watch the damn thing. All this angst so that I can eventually watch it and beat myself up more for not being a better dancer.

Cranky. More chocolate.
