So incredibly groggy... in addition to my internal clock being all messed up by this daylight savings thing, I'm definitely feeling the pollen coming on and I'm not getting enough air. I'm holding off on the ventolin but I'll probably need it later. Maybe the caffeine in my tea will be enough to make things a little better.
Last night's show at the Middle East was very wonderful. M noted before I went on that it seemed to be a tough crowd, but I think they just didn't like the previous dancer, for whatever reasons (I didn't see her, I have no idea really). There was an awesome table of twenty-something Arab kids singing along with all the music and waving their arms--their glee was contaigous and I had a blast dancing for them. They went crazy for Taht al-Shibbak, so I was glad I chose the music I did. The place was only about half full, but it was a quality crowd, all people who like the music and who know something about belly dancing. That complicated drum solo went fine; I'm looking forward to working on that particular solo more, now that I know I can handle it. The table of Arab kids loved the khaleegi break in there--as did I, any chance to toss hair is good :-) Another dancer actually asked me how I prepared such a great drum solo. I did not tell her that I randomly picked the solo on Tuesday [edited to add: looking at previous entries, I see I actually picked it on Thursday, ha], listened to it four or five times a day until Sunday, whereupon I danced to it for the first time in the afternoon before running out the door to perform it. Instead I told her the key was just listening to it over and over and over, which I guess was also the truth. But it felt darn good to get that kind of feedback when I wasn't sure how it was going to go. Really good way to end the weekend!
