velvet coats on sale at newport news... must not buy velvet just because I feel sorry for myself and fidgety... must have willpower... but that edwardian coat is so charming (and so free-sized at the hip)...

well you can tell yourself that when you check their catalog 6 months from now, it'll probably still be there. there are a few items in their current catalog, the edwardian coat included, that were in last year's xmas catalog.

It's Newport News. Click on Fashion and then on Velvet Must-Haves for the velvet coats. I don't think they are serious winter coats, though. The only order I've ever placed with them was for a couple of summery tank dresses, which were decent quality but that's not really that hard with cotton knits...

I've gotten a dress and some pants from them that were great, and surprisingly high quality, but that's certainly not always the case.

La Redoute is actually better quality & nicer stuff in my experience, and similarly priced. And they now ship from the US so shipping is affordable ... but they do not have piles of black velvet coats right now, it's true!
