Sep. 30th, 2005 02:50 pmSalon ran a review of Serenity today which compares Joss Whedon very favorably to Charles Dickens (in terms of the serialization and plotting of long stories). The reviewer's basic complaint about the movie was that it wasn't a year-long tv series, which even she admits is a rather unfair complaint. Anyway, the reason I mention this review at all is that I loved her description of Zoe: "a curvaceous warrior who redefines womanliness as if it were a newly discovered muscle."
I'm very excited for the movie tonight; i just wish I could wake up, and I think the whole T debacle this morning has resulted in no time for dinner beforehand. Ah well.
Saw The Corpse Bride last night and loved loved loved it. It's a gentler and subtler movie than Nightmare Before Christmas, but for the same reason perhaps gets under your skin a little more. Like a maggot or something. Anyway, wonderful movie, if you like Tim Burton at all then see it without delay.
And seeing Mirrormask tomorrow evening--I usually see a movie in the theatre every two months or so at most, so this is quite strange for me. But how can one resist the offerings of Joss Whedon, Tim Burton and Neil Gaiman/Dave McKean?
