Sep. 9th, 2005 12:32 pmThe Hurricane Hafli is listed in the Sidekick section of the Globe today in a list of hurricane benefit events, yay! And the email address I created for the press release, hurricane_hafli@hotmail.com, has already had one inquiry about the event.
Started working last night on my set for Sept. 18--one of the songs I'm including is Amina's cover of My Man, the French song sung so beautifully in translation by Billie Holiday. Amina is Tunisian, but the arrangement of the song is clearly old school Egyptian with big strings so I think this will be the working proof of my "Egyptian dancing is like Billie Holiday singing" theory. I will admit it's a little on the hokey side (and Amina's English is pretty random) but I think it will work really well. If I dance in the hurricane benefit I think I'll use it there too.
Going to see Cavalia tonight--I am so very excited! Beautiful horses are exactly what the end of this week needs.
I know I had something else to write about but my brain is not cooperating. I started the day off by dropping a foundation-laden sponge on my black dress, it's been about more of the same ever since. It will be a good night to go watch *other* people be graceful.

Date: 2005-09-09 04:59 pm (UTC)I think that they should have subtitled Cavalia A Show Created Especially for Badriyaz.
Did you hear the left-handed review on WBUR this morning? Once again I will say, that reviewers need to have some sort of understanding about the genre that they're reviewing, even if they don't especially like it.

Date: 2005-09-09 09:16 pm (UTC)Random thought I had while listening to the radio on the way to work: have you sent the press release to local radio stations? While I shudder to think what Hillman (WAAF), for example, might throw in for commentary, there is, as they say, no such thing as bad publicity. (That may not be entirely true, but in this case, anything that gets attention, probably a good thing.)
