how is it that I'm awake again? Didn't I just get to sleep a few minutes ago? Is there any compelling reason against curling up under my desk for a little nap?

As of last night I'm the brand new membership coordinator for the Boston chapter of the Northeast Belly Dance Association. I promise not to harrangue dancers I know too much about joining ;-) At some point I'll be working up a statement on why joining is a good thing and I'll circulate that around. I'm actually hoping that given the various crowds of people that I know that I can help draw the various sorts of dancers into the association--there's a perception out there that the association is just run by a certain clique of old school old guard cabaret dancers, and while that group did found the association, each chapter is exactly what you make of it and the membership controls what it does. Since one of the things we will do is put on shows in which members can perform, I think we could put together some really fabulously diverse shows with a bit of outreach. A lot of other dance communities around the country are a bit torn apart by cabaret-tribal-whatever rivalries and it would be great if we could keep Boston the pretty open and accepting dance community that it has the potential to be.

Got home rather later than I wanted from the meeting last night--after the business portion, there were some performances and then some open floor dancing. Dancing felt good after a day of sitting still, dancing without the pressure of working on a particular piece or feeling like I had to drill things or whatever. Just dancing for the fun of it, relaxed on two gin and tonics :) The meeting was at the All-Asia Bar, which has pretty cool decor and a nice little stage but stupidly expensive drinks for the locale and terrible food. I was disappointed by the drinks and food aspect, because it had seemed like a venue with some potential. Funnily enough, while I was waiting for the bartender to get off the phone and do his job, I heard him saying to the person on the phone that the management was trying to figure out why they don't get much business and how to increase it--it was all I could do to restrain myself from saying "for one thing, dude, you could pay attention to the customers standing in front of you, and for another thing, you can't charge Lansdowne Street prices for drinks in Central Square and by the way your food is the worst kind of sucktastic Americanized Chinese salty fried crap imaginable." I kept that in my head, though.

Then me, my two gin and tonics and my unhappily empty stomach toddled off to Central Square, where we met a happy [livejournal.com profile] _perihelion_ and his happy friend. Running into people randomly is a good thing, I should endeavor to do so more often. Wish I could have stayed and gotten happier with them, but dinner and sleep were calling. Got myself home (depsite annoyances from guy on bus, prompted by book written by LeVar Burton I was reading: "Wow, LeVar Burton wrote a book?" uttered in this tone of 'wow, he's so dumb, he can actually write?' It was very annoying because for one thing, LeVar Burton is pretty cool and the book isn't bad, even if the writing style is a bit pedestrian and for another thing, I was actually trying to read said book, not be leaned over and breathed on by drunk geeks with stupid geek egos who I would be willing to bet would not have initiated the conversation if I were a man, because women are expected to pay attention whereas you don't bother other men. Mreh.), fed, and took a nap until it was time to go to work.

I will sleep like the dead tonight and if anybody tries to reanimate me, I will eat their brains. In my sleep.

No no no. It's because there's no need to talk to another guy, if you're het. See, the book was an excuse to talk to you and feel out the possibility of getting into your pants. Sheesh. Don't you know anything?

Quite possibly. I've been guilty of both bugging whoever (M or F) is reading something really intriguing (but I leave them alone after a quick question or two), and of bugging attractive women who are reading something interesting just as an excuse to talk to them (I also leave them alone quickly, unless they draw the conversation out). I've also been on the "Shuttup, cantcha see I'm tryin' ta READ, here?" end of things. Some people just aren't very good with the body language.

Probably better. But they're still trying to do too much at once with that place.

I bet he was hitting on you in his own, highly unsuccessful, way. You must forgive him as it's a tragedy of the species. Males just lack the DNA. The Y chromosome is just so much smaller than the X chromosome. But take heart. In his infinite noodleness, the Flying Spaghetti Monster will ensure that he does not send his lacking genes forward.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster works in mysterious ways. ;-)
