Jul. 26th, 2005 05:26 pmI read today that Mel Gibson is going to be filming a movie in Mexico entirely in an archaic Mayan dialect. The title of the movie will be "Apocalypto," which doesn't sound much like ancient Mayan to me.
Years ago I saw an episode of In Search Of about the death and resurrection of Christ. One of the many odd things mentioned in the program was that some "scholars" believe that the last words of Christ on the cross, the Aramaic for 'father, why have you forsaken me,' are actually exactly the same as the words 'I am a rising butterfly' in an ancient Mayan dialect.
You read it here first. (unless you already read it somewhere else.)
