Busy busy weekend, but generally in a good way. Gamed Friday night, went home, drank a glass of water, did my leg exercises and fell asleep on the couch while icing my foot. i don't especially recommend doing that. Slept really badly, which really sucked given how exhausted I've been, but I held out hope that I would sleep better on Saturday night, thinking perhaps my body too conditioned to expect less than enough sleep.

Saturday helped friends move for about half of their move, but since Mathew had to leave early and my tendon was giving out, I left early as well. I added the next layer of grout to my mosaic project, installed Norton Firewall, and then got all dolled up to see Seyyide dance at Baladi. She was lovely and appreciated the support, and I met a few other students who were nice people. I even danced a debke, though my leg is so not thanking me for that today. Beledi is a great dance night with a live band and excellent Lebanese mezze and a friendly crowd* and some of you all should come with me sometime--I'll post when I'm going. Split a cab home (after declining a ride from one of the ex-pat Russians mentioned below) with another student, stayed up reading for a bit, conked out.

*sometimes a little too friendly, though. The Arabic guys** were all very polite but there were a couple of ex-pat Russians who were rather forward. Goth clubs are really a unique experience in clubland, I have to remember when I am going to non-Goth clubs.

**as another aside, it is great watching the Arabic guys dance--they shimmy and prance about just like the women do, if not more. One similarity to Goth clubs is that Arabic nightclubs seem to be one of the few venues where men can dance with emotion and panache and not be any the less manly for it. Some of the guys at Baladi are great dancers.

Woke up too early again today. This is not so good, but what can one do? Awake is awake. Hopefully the three day weekend next week will allow me to catch up, plus I really do think I'll take a sick day this week, perhaps Wednesday.

Today (Sunday) has been just a frenzy of activity. Read the paper, did the dishes (including washing down the very disgusting countertops), then got ready to dance. I ran through the music that I'm going to use in August once and didn't feel very coordinated or with it, so I decided to do some of the Nourhan Sharif technique tape to kind of wake up my muscle memory. I then discovered the problem wasn't that I wasn't thinking clearly, it was that my body was dead tired and had nothing to give. Somehow I should have foreseen this, I think. If nothing else, my warmup helped keep me from stiffening up too much.

So since dancing didn't seem like an option, I decided to work on this ceiling fixture project for the living room. We've always hated the light in our living room. It's not especially hideous, but it's cut glass and gold and flowers so it really doesn't match anything else. I was all set to buy a new fixture and rewire it myself, but somehow Mathew didn't think this was a very safe idea. I don't see how it could be much harder than setting up a component stereo system and speakers, but I know he'd be sad if I were electrocuted, so I gave in. Instead, I bought a wire lampshade frame which I am covering with faceted grey glass beads, strung on wire. I spent about three hours on it and I'd say I'm about 5 percent done. Come fall, we should have a new lightshade ready. It's somewhat tedious work, but I listened to/sang along with Rasputina, Peggy Lee and the Verve Remixed comp while working on it, and being creative was good for my soul.

Also I have done five loads of laundry today, including our comforter. It is still covered in ferret hair, but at least now it is clean, freshly-laundered ferret hair. In 40 minutes Six Feet Under starts (with a kinda predictable lesbian subplot for Claire. Though I guess if she's in art school, it's predictable that such a subplot would be predictable. What i really want to know is if Keith and David are really going to make it work or not, and when/if Nate and Brenda will get back together. Their sex in the premiere episode this season was the most devastatingly depressing sex I've ever seen on film, so I am not sure they should be back together. But I guess that's what Nate foresaw when he was dead. I think Michelle Trachtenberg starts a guest appearance run tonight, too. Anyway, back to my life.)

Hopefully I will see many of you Monday night at Ceremony--I am going to arrive around 7pm for dinner, should anyone else be in the area and care to join me.

Please keep me on the list for Baladi. I suspect if my body were willing last night, it would have been the very best tonic for a very bad day (if the movees are reading, the badness of the day had nothing to do with the move, except for my poor attitude during it).

I wanted to go too, but it was my first weekend to relax in a long time and my brain completely forgot about it. Otherwise, I really wanted to go because Alli had mentioned it.
