Jun. 6th, 2005 12:22 pmI heard a loon this morning on my way to work. I didn't see it, but their call is pretty unmistakable. I'd heard that there were loons in the area--they've been confused by all the storm fronts and so have hung out here longer than they would normally. The call brought me back to nature dreams that I had last night.
My first performance workshop with Amira Jamal is tonight--it should be interesting. Basically, it's a four-week class consisting of lecture/demonstration about various performance issues, and then one or two students perform a routine which we then analyze using MEDINA's contest score sheets (hmm, i was going to provide a link to the MEDINA contest site, but all that is there is a placeholder page that says MEDINA 2005 has been cancelled. well, it's a big old belly dance contest, for those who don't know). It will be scary when my turn comes later this month, but I'm really looking forward to the work we'll be doing. I think I need an experience like this right now, because my ability to self-assess is pretty much skewed out of the galaxy at the moment to the point where I'm not believing I'm doing anything right. It may just be that I'm at one of those plateau moments, but I feel a bit adrift. Plus there's body issues but I am desparately trying not to let those undermine me. "trying" being the operative word.
Speaking of galaxies, I saw Revenge of the Sith on Friday. I think I narrated a much better movie in my head as I was watching it--it was easy to read stuff into people's behavior that on reflection just wasn't conveyed by the writing or acting. There were definitely things I liked*, but overall I think I feel a sense of relief that George Lucas will stop messing with Star Wars now. Well, I guess there are tv shows in the works, but one doesn't expect much of those anyway.
*I really liked the feathery leaping lizard thing. I know it squawked too much, but it was pretty.
