Mar. 11th, 2005 09:33 amI have officially joined the modern world--I have ordered my first cell phone. It arrives on Monday or Tuesday, I can't wait! There have been many times in the last couple of years when I have thought "gee, it would be useful to have a cell phone right now" and Tuesday's blizzard was pretty much the last straw, because if I had made my bus I would have gone to dance class only to find it closed, but if I had had a cell phone, I would have known well before I would have gotten on the bus that class was cancelled. Plus now I can order takeout on my way home from class. I just went with a pay as you go plan, because I don't see me using the phone a whole lot. I'm not really a chatty phone person. Those plans probably aren't cost effective if you do use the phone a lot, but I think for me it would make my average monthly bill less than $10, which is pretty reasonable.
My Rachel Brice yoga drills and isolations DVD arrived yesterday. I did the 45 minute workout, which was really more like 40 minutes (including 5 minutes or so of corpse pose, so really more like 35 minutes). It is a good DVD and will be useful, but I had hoped for more difficult stuff. Not that I can do what's on there perfectly, especially some of the plank stuff, but it was all stuff that I have been exposed to before. A rather major problem with the DVD is that there's no time for transitions between poses, so one movement that ends with you stretched to the sky can be followed by a movement that starts with lying face-down on the ground, so you end up flinging yourself at the ground to catch up, and that's not very conducive to maintaining one's harmonious composure. Anyway, I can use it as general guidance on the yoga stuff, and the isolation portion is pretty good. I swear that woman is half anaconda, the way her muscles move under her skin. The DVD also comes with 15 minute and 30 minute workouts, and in theory I will do the 15 minute one every morning. Didn't happen this morning, though, as I am sick.
Also, in case of zombies, I'm your woman:
Other people my age and gender seem to be not so good at dealing with zombies. And I'm sure with my new cell phone I'd be even more effective.

| Official Survivor Congratulations! You scored 57! |
Whether through ferocity or quickness, you made it out. You made the right choice most of the time, but you probably screwed up somewhere. Nobody's perfect, at least your alive. |

My test tracked 1 variable How you compared to other people your age and gender:

Date: 2005-03-11 06:59 am (UTC)It's your native intelligence, your forestry experience, and your dancing-mediated body awareness, I betcha. Cell phones are indeed a plus in the first stages of a zombie invasion, but if the infection becomes a pandemic, essential services shut down across the grid within 48 hours.
Well, welcome to the leash. I did find that I seldom use the phone as well -- having it in hand didn't make me more inclined to use it; but it sure comes in handy.
I never thought of ordering take-out on my way home. Brilliant!
