Jan. 22nd, 2005 07:53 pmA bellyful of butternut squash soup and pumpernickel bagel is a most excellent thing after slogging to the grocery store and shovelling the four or so inches of snow that have already accumulated. Fixings for homemade pizza and brownies sit in the kitchen. Ferrets are cute and cozy. The only thing missing is M, who most dedicatedly went to a recording session today. Thankfully he went by T, but I hope he comes home soon.
I don't know if I wrote about the ManRay performance here or not--it was lots of fun. You can see the evidence here for yourself. I am particularly happy with photos 7837 and 7842. Also 7796, although the sword almost looks photoshopped in. It wasn't! Oh, and Jason from Liquid says "4 of my beauties and one of my studs on stage and I didn't make it..... It was so good of you to send the link for me, they were great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell everyone I loved the picts just the same, O.K.!!!! Big kisses and hugs!"
My next gig is at Kabarett 16-Bit on February 12--here's the flyer. (Seven Sunless Days is M's new band, fyi.) Before I went grocery shopping and shovelling, I danced for an hour or so working on the pieces for that performance. One's pretty much finished. The other was a little stalled, but while listening to the song the other day it occured to me that it might work really well as a veil piece. Lo and behold, veil worked great. I could dance to it in public now if I had to, though I'm glad I have a few more weeks to work on it. Then I'm dancing at a private party on the 19th, and in some kind of open-to-the-public but I don't totally know what it is yet event on Sunday, Feb. 27. I do know it's a bellydance community event, but I don't know much about it yet. Seyyide's organizing it though, so I have no worries about it. So far, nothing is scheduled for March, and that's probably a good thing. I know I have a gig in April and at least one, possibly two in May. Busy busy!
While I was shovelling, a young woman who must have grown up somewhere with no snow came over and asked me if a snow emergency meant that parking would be allowed on the streets. I am guessing her logic was that the emergency was that people couldn't get the snow out of their driveways. She looked very sad when I told her that no, in fact it meant that you had to get your car out of the street so that the streets could be cleared and further more I'd seen a policeman a few blocks down yelling at people to move their cars (which I had).

Date: 2005-01-22 05:43 pm (UTC)you are in a place with a plethora of dance classes--I envy you! You might really enjoy the classes at Fat Chance Belly Dance. It's American Tribal Style, so it's a bit different from the cabaret stuff you see in Boston, but it would be a lot of fun, and it's also very much about the group working together. In some sense, you could say it's a made-up style of belly dance, but it has a lot of integrity unlike some female deity dancing I could mention. I just watched an interview with the founder of Fat Chance, and I have tremendous respect for her.
