You know those kinds of nightmares where you discover that you've forgotten something absolutely crucial (like, say, your pants)  and you are in a state of utter panic?  That nightmare was my reality this afternoon as I unpacked my costumes before the recital only to discover that I'd left behind half of my copper and leopard costume.  goddamn it, that's what I have a check list for!  I ran downstairs at our venue to find M, who was having lunch before the show.  Without a moment's hesitation, he leapt up from his lunch and drove from BU to Arlington and back in a little over a half hour as I anxiously paced.  I had just changed into my other costume (thankfully I had two, although that was because I needed two distinct costumes) when M ran up to the performance area, gasping and out of breath from having run four blocks from where he had to park the car.  I did a lightning-fast change (any dancers reading this know what a challenge it is to get out of one bedleh and into another fast!) and crept into my seat as the show was being announced, putting on jewelry, hairband and gauntlet gloves as the first dancers did their numbers.

I was marginally composed and collected when it was time for my solo, and because M had heroically raced through Boston city traffic for me, I was able to present the piece exactly as I had envisioned it.  It would have been ok in the other costume, but not at all the same.  And in the end, I think it was some of my best dancing to date--at any rate, I felt very happy with it.  And the group number went fine too, no collisions on stage, nobody falling over after the series of fast turns.  M said people were impressed by my balancing the sword on my hip.  It's nice to be exactly the right shape and weight for something.

M's out at rehearsal right now but I am baking him a yummy gourmet pizza when he gets home in thanks.  Then we may make it out to one or two parties tonight.  Or we may not.  ;-)

As I was typing that, Seti went proudly prancing past me, dragging my umbrella with his teeth.  He was entirely too cute to stop.  I can fish the umbrella out from under the bed later.

Pan is definitely on an upswing this week--he's visibly put some weight back on again and is eager to eat.  He gave me kisses this morning, which was partly because I was wearing lipstick but it also means he is feeling better.

Our next door neighbors have decorated their front porch with myriad things, including one of those animatronic white framed reindeer covered with white lights,  like this one on ebay.  It turns its head back and forth and its antlers look like giant bunny ears.  You have no idea how happy this makes me every time I see it.  I swear it turns its head to say hi to me as I make my weary way home after dance classes.

M had heroically raced through Boston city traffic

I can attest to the heroic part. I left the house at 11:30, didn't get there until 1:15--the traffic was _that_ bad. M rocks.
