Forget men doing tango, it's all about men doing flamenco. It's those little pec twitches that get me. Drool.
After the judges were so harsh on Wednesday night, Nigel's little Kobe Bryant speech was rather touching. Chelsea T and Comfort's solos were fine; Chelsea has a ton of stage presence but that might not be enough to get her much further, we'll see. I think Nigel only said critical things to Comfort because he had to, as I didn't find what he said all that applicable. I definitely predict her staying on to at least the top 10, if only because they will want a b-girl in the post-show tour. Also, she's just plain awesome. And she danced to 70s Afrika Bombaataa! I am totally girl crushing on her. Susie gave her solo a lot of energy, but she really did look like a cheerleader to me. I know that what the sports team dancers do is hard work but it's just not the same as a solo dance discipline, and it's not about interpreting the music. She doesn't suck, but she really didn't belong on the show. Among the men, I was very, very surprised that it was Marquis that got cut. I thought for sure his solo would keep him in and was trying to figure out which of the other two should be cut. I suspect this was a case of the judges looking around the room and seeing who had the most signs being waved, and keeping the dancers who were more popular with the audience. Maybe his solo was full of tricks, but if they were good tricks done well on a foundation of solid technique, then what's the problem with that? I feel he was wronged. I mean, just look at him! The other two were boring, and he was definitely not boring. I do stand by what I said about his being a bit young (I think he's just 18?) and thus unformed, but he would have gotten formed quick in the intensity of the show. I do hope he'll be back next year.
Shane Sparks' big group number seemed pretty cool but the camera work was perplexing and made it difficult to get a feel for the piece as a whole. I liked the bit where the music dropped out and a single movement flowed across the dancers from one side of the stage to the other in time to the bullet sounds.
I think Mary Murphy is daring the world to call her cougar with all her animal prints this week. You go, you hot mess of a tamale! I find her difficult to endure at times but somehow I admire her.
