This weekend, blessedly long, was relatively relaxing compared to the last few weekends. That was much needed. Friday night I went to the MAC counter, as previously noted, and bought makeup. I am pleased to add that I am not allergic to any of it, including the pinkish violet color. When M came home from gaming, we watched a not-so-bad season premiere of Enterprise. It felt way more Star Trek than previous seasons have, even with the Nazi aliens. Captain Archer even gave somebody the two-handed Kirk chop. I conked out early but did not sleep well. I think my body was anticipating being woken up too early and was unable to sleep late.

Saturday we went to the Bernard Toale Gallery to see the ParkeHarrison photos that were not on display at the de Cordova. These newer works felt more optimistic than many of the ones at the de Cordova--optimism in the face of seemingly impossible odds, but optimism none the less. I wish I had buckets of money and could support artists who create such wonderful things. I would make an excellent patron of the arts. Then it was off to PJ Harvey, for the best of the three PJ shows I've seen. Her backing band was so committed to being there and brought so much raw energy to the material, something that was rather lacking in the previous shows and really made the older songs come to life again. The highlight for me though was Come On Billy, performed by just PJ and her guitar. It was perfect. Since the show was at Avalon, it ended shockingly early, so we had plenty of time to get over to a nice party for much good conversation of varying degrees of intensity. We left when I fell asleep on M's shoulder on the couch.

Sunday I met with [livejournal.com profile] nepenthe01 to talk about a Manray performance in January. I think it will be pretty swell, if hopelessly orientalist. We should title the piece "With Apologies to Edward Said." I didn't realize I was going to be so much the center of it, but I think I'm okay with that as long as everybody else is. We got some good work done, picking out the music and putting together a rough framework and plot. I'm looking forward to the whole process of putting it all together! Then I went home and planted tulip and crocus bulbs. So far the squirrels have not dug them up; I was very sneaky in my planting strategy (I saved the old mulch to cover up the freshly dug ground to hide the digging), plus I sprinkled cayenne pepper all over the area. Hopefully the squirrels do not like their bulbs spicy. I also did more cleaning on my mosaic table. The end is in sight!

Sunday night, happily, I slept like the dead for 11 hours. I needed that. Monday I did some work on a new dance DVD I bought (an excellent 4-disc set from Hadia, with great warmups and cooldowns, this will be very valuable in the long run) and drilled some movements that have been perplexing me (I will never, ever get a washing machine shimmy. Egyptian, hips, 3/4 shimmy, freeze, earthquake--those are all my friends, but washing machine evades me), then M and I went to see Shaun of the Dead. I think we read far too much into it later by discussing the symbolic meaning of zombie as the process of trying to integrate your past with your present, but it was quite funny. I could easily imagine a video game where you play Shaun bashing zombies with your cricket bat. And finally, it was off to An Tua Nua for dinner and dancing at Ceremony, something I had not done in far too long.

So that was my "relaxing" weekend. Today I am tired and my stomach doesn't like me. Someday I will have one of those lazy weekends where one does absolutely nothing, and starts the week refreshed. Someday.
