Sunshine pours through my window and envelops me in a warm cozy comforter and I feel myself drifting off... It's really only 9:45? I've only been here for an hour and ten minutes?

Rehearsal ran late last night and it was at a studio over by South Station (the Red Line, of course, hated me and had many delays*, and then the 77 bus was about 10 minutes late as well), so I got home very late indeed. Then I still had to do laundry because all of my dance pants were in dire need of laundering before the workshop this weekend and if I waited until tonight to do the laundry, they probably wouldn't dry in time. Dinner seemed like a good idea, too. I watched the 1am Daily Show and took a 4 hour nap, and now I'm here at work. Tomorrow I've got a workshop all day, a performance at night, then more workshop all day Sunday. Someday I will be able to sleep in. Someday. Hopefully I can get to bed somewhat early tonight, though I have to pack all my gear for Saturday--workshop clothes plus three costumes plus coverup plus shower stuff plus the kitchen sink.

I discovered in the rehearsal last night that when the rest of the troupe worked on Ojos Asi on Monday night, everybody who was there who had done it before had remembered many of the movements exactly backwards, so that's the way the new students have learned it, and now it's the way I'm going to have to remember it, because it would be asking too much of the new members to relearn it in time for Saturday. That will teach me to be unavailable for rehearsals. Some of the reversal stuff isn't too bad, because the choreography splits the group into two mirror images and I've danced both sides before, but what throws me is remembering move number three when I've just done move one after move two. And forcing myself to turn backwards is a feat of rather mind-boggling proportions. Maybe it's the dyslexia, but I simply cannot ever tell which direction I am turning in--I mean, a circle is a circle, so you're always turning both left and right in a way, aren't you? Clockwise/Counterclockwise doesn't work for me either, because I can't translate the vertical clock into the horizontal axis of movement. Well, I guess I *can*, just not as quickly as is needed in the middle of a dance, or not without staring at the floor. Anyway, this will be an interesting test of my skills. I'm also having to remember half of another choreography in mirror image, but that's pretty straightforward compared to Ojos Asi, none of the movements in the other one are out of order, just going in the opposite direction.

My little flock of starlings are in the tree outside the window eating red berries. I remind myself of Branwen. I made beer once in Montreal that I named Branwen's Starling Stout. It was dark and bitter--yes, exactly like my heart at that time.

Now it's 10:10. More tea...

*we were stopped for a while outside Park. The announcer said that it was due to traffic ahead of us, but I had waited for about 15 minutes for a train at South Station, so how could there have been traffic ahead of us? I swear they just make up reasons to stop.

Well, at least you're listening to Sarah Vaughan.

That tale of Bran and Branwen is trippy. I'd never read that before. It's really opera material, or at least opera as staged by Julie Taymor.
