alonewiththemoonFinished up my voodoo corset belt last night. I'm pretty happy with it. I will probably like it even better when I next see it, since I won't have been staring at it for the previous two hours. And I planned out the bra decorations and structure. Happily I have enough old faded chiffon leftover to cover the cups, so it will match my faded chiffon skirt. The leftover bit was once the top of a dress (the skirt, of course, having been the bottom), so it's even already cut in the right shape. I like repurposing! I would say I'm looking at about six hours of work on the bra, 1-2 for the anklets and some time to tea-dye my purple multi-panel skirt so it isn't so bright. Adorn myself with random found bones and such, and I'll be all good to go! With luck I can get a lot of that done on Sunday.
I'm dancing at the Middle East the Sunday before Halloween. I usually do some holiday related deal when I perform near a holiday because I am somewhat cheesy that way, but Halloween seems almost too easy. The other thing is that it's the day before our wedding anniversary, so I was thinking of dancing to some really romantic song, Inta Omri or something. Then again, M would probably like a Halloween thing better than what would be to him some random piece of Arabic music. I don't want to do all-out gothic stuff, because I feel pretty certain it would not really work for that crowd. I've seen their reaction to gothy tribal fusion. But then what Arabic Halloween-y stuff is there? Not going to do I Put a Spell on You, I do love it but chances are e v e r y b o d y will be dancing to it. There's that Sayed Balaha drum solo with the screams, it's like 9 minutes long so I'd have to edit it. Maybe I can find somebody to dress up like a donkey and dance to Saad's I Love You Donkey song. I rather like that idea... I wouldn't do that to M though, he'd be mortified. And I'm not sure exactly what I'd be saying to Middle Eastern audiences by implying that I thought my husband was a donkey. Still, that has potential as a comedy routine!
Maybe I'll do a more or less regular set but get some leopard kitty ears somewhere and wear them with my leopard costume. That might actually work... Dancing to Omm Koulthoum in kitty ears, I'm sure worse has been done. It would bug me more to be dancing to O.K. in a Turkish costume than in kitty ears, frankly ;-)
