Raks Spooki II, Nov. 18
Sep. 13th, 2007 06:10 pmI think most anybody who reads my LJ who might respond to this call for dancers/vendors is also on Tribe where I've already posted this, but just in case (and so the rest of you can mark your calendars in anticipation of a call for spectators ;-) ...
OK, it's official now! Raks Spooki II, the second annual fall celebration of New England's gothic belly dance community, is happening on Sunday, November 18, 2007 from 3:30-6:30pm, at the Regent Underground Theatre in Arlington, MA. Dance slots will fill up very quickly, so please let me know asap if you are interested in performing. Strict time limit of 6 minutes per slot. Additionally, I have space for vendors. The vending fee this time around will be $35 as the theatre has raised its rental fee. Those spots will also fill quickly! Message me through Tribe if interested in performing or vending, or email me at badriya at rcn dot com.
I'm pleased to say that the hafli will be a benefit for Women for Women, www.womenforwomen.org/ , a non-profit which helps women in war-torn regions of the world get back on their feet and start rebuilding their lives. Currently, they are focused on Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, Kosovo, Rwanda, Colombia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Some of these are places where our dance movements, costuming and jewelry come from. Using what women of the Middle East have given us, we can make real differences in the lives of other women. We can use our freedoms to help them gain their own freedom from war, poverty and injustice.
Details on the event's workshop are still being ironed out, but will be forthcoming soon!
