It turned out pretty well--the longer the drink sat around, the better it got, so I'm thinking infusing the rum with the ginger might be a better way to go, rather than muddling it. The ginger wasn't actually all that sharp to begin with, I used about a thumb-sized piece, minus peelings, for two drinks. I'm going to try it again, muddled, but with cranberry soda rather than cranberry seltzer as I think the seltzer somewhat amplified the earthiness of the ginger.
