mad love is religion enough for my heart
Sep. 9th, 2004 02:46 pmWhat a wonderful, lovely show by Faith and the Muse last night. I want to be Monica Richards when I grow up. Her voice just keeps getting better and better, and the band was very good, very complimentary styles. It's always a pleasure to see what Kambriel has stitched up for Monica to wear, and it was an even greater pleasure to see Curse up on stage playing dueling doumbeks with William Faith. All in all the show felt like a renewal of my gothnicitah. Also, I dearly desire belled rings--it was brilliant the way Monica used them. These weren't the little chintzy belled rings you see everywhere, these were solid and loud.
I did not, however, enjoy the gentleman--nay, let us call him by what he appeared to be, the yah dood--who sang at the top of his lungs to every song until begged to shut up by the people around him.
fusion_waste, you will be amused to know that he continually made the "I love you" sign as he pumped his arms in the air, shouting "Monica!!!!!" I mean, it's kind of cool that a guy who you wouldn't remotely think would be a F&tM fan is in fact such a fan that he knows all the words to all the songs, but man, what an ass. It probably goes without saying that he couldn't sing to save his life. Then there was the kid with the mohawk who wedged himself into a space on the dance floor where there wasn't enough room to even stand and then commenced to dancing. It was one of those moments when having a lunchbox comes in handy, because when somebody whacks their elbow into it enough times they get the hint and move over a little. And it turned out he wasn't so punk rock after all, mr. mohawk kid, because he did not appear to recognize "New Rose," F&tM's tribute to being old school. The yah dood, on the other hand, tried to start a mosh pit. Ass.
Amber Spyglass were the best I've heard them to date--the new lineup is pretty solid. Guitarist John D (formerly of Opium Den) is just so talented. Mono_Chrome didn't do much for me. After the third song sounded exactly like the previous two, I gave up and hung out with people in the other rooms. It was very nice to see so many people. I should go out more. In a perfect world...
This morning the only thing that got me out of bed was knowing that I had lovely Montreal bagels for breakfast, courtesy of
mishak. Ah, sweet heaven wrapped in sesame seeds!
