alonewiththemoonJust started a spreadsheet to track my dance costs and income--scary. It looks like I might make some money this year, so I figure if there's dance income I'll have to report on my 2007 tax return, then I'll want to deduct anything that I can to counterbalance it. Also it's a good idea, albeit a painful one, to get a sense of how much I'm really spending on this. ouch. No wonder I am still in debt, can never afford to travel and generally always feel broke. January looks extra bad though because I paid for two months of Amira Jamal's class, so February will be a little lighter. Maybe.
Maybe I'll tackle 2006's taxes today. I do need to get in some good yoga time this afternoon though to loosen up for my show tonight (10:40, if anyone's in the area). I found a translation for the pop song that I'm using, El Kelam ala Meen by Saad, but am reminded that knowing the words is not at all the same thing as knowing what they mean. Lots of stuff about professional writers and butchers... I think though that it's just a trust the people on the street, we're the real Egyptians and we're tough and strong and we don't need politicians and the media to tell us what to think kind of song. 'Sassy pride" should work well as an attitude, that's generally true for sha'abi anyway if I am not mistaken.
I really want the rest of my Sophisticated Assuit dress to come home, not just so that I can wear the whole outfit but because I've got a few costume ideas using the bra and belt with other skirts/accessories that would significantly stretch out my wardrobe. Hopefully I'll have it within the next month or so. Only two more months and it will have been an entire year since I ordered it. Sigh.
Yesterday's BPAL of the day was Nefertiti, "The Beautiful One Is Come. Egyptian iris and olibanum with red and white sandalwood, soft myrrh and a breath of North African herbs." This wasn't bad. I think it was a little too floral for me to wear as a perfume, though I would use it to scent a bath. I'm quite fond of myrrh.
ok, quit procrastinating and do some practicing and warming up...
