So, having had a MySpace profile for a week or so, I am starting to get adds from random bands and musicians around the world, which is interesting.  Some I've liked and added, some have been wretched and rejected.  But it's making me wonder how it is that bands know to look for people.  For example, I assume Castus Rabensang requested an add because I had already added Qntal and the Medaeival Baebes and some other similar bands.  But how did he/his people find me?  Does MySpace have a sort of subscription service for bands whereby they notify a band when a user adds a similar band?  Or do they do all this work by hand, regularly checking the friends of the bands that are similar to them?  Are there nifty little software applications people use?

There is a preference you can use to keep bands from randomly adding you, and they require approval to add you just like an individual.

But I have no idea how anyone finds people on my space, some of my attempted ads have been very random indeed!
