Bellydancers I "know" through chat boards are fleeing Lebanon, or trying their best to get out of the country, not just foreign dancers who were studying in Lebanon but the Lebanese dancers themselves as well. People there are pretty sure this is the end of Lebanon's fragile movements towards peace :-(

Date: 2006-07-13 10:56 pm (UTC)Except for the young male cousins with cameras and broadband, who want to stay for the duration.
Vaira (from Jordan -- she was visiting family in the Cedars) texted me that this is SO NOT GOOD. We hope to be having lunch at Sonsie in a couple of days. I'm pretty sure that meeting is going to take back seat to the Watertown relatives, assuming she can get back on her passport. I can't get a hold of the former Mr Rojagato -- I think he's in Poland right now, so no worries.
This is a lot better (for me) than when I was on Costa del Sol without any communication on the last big bombing raid into Beirut, and had to rely on the Beeb's office to get in touch with my fiancee, fiancee's family, and friends who were basically Beeb and CNN stringers, as well as Foreign Service. What a strange thing to be able to say, that this is better.
