alonewiththemoon: Drumlin Farm Banding Station 2016 (fruityoatytrio)
Emusic just added some of the recent releases from Miles Copeland's label, the new Turbo Tabla, Oojami, Hoda and Beats Antique.  I already have the Turbo Tabla album and like it a lot, I think it's more mature than the first one.  I'm downloading the Oojami album as I type this, listening to the samples it seems to have a more overt dancehall feel which I think is a nice twist on their sound, Turkey goes over to Jamaica's house and they go out dancing all night.  I downloaded a few of the Hoda songs.  Her voice is a little too squeaky for me but I liked the music itself.  Beats Antique... I don't know.  I listened to the samples and I can't decide if I really liked it, or if it was too much of a muchness.  I love Middle Eastern music, I love glitchy electronic music, I love smoky cabaret jazz, but the combination of all three can veer dangerously close to jazz fusion prog, something for which I have about zero tolerance as a listener (somehow Oojami gets a free pass on this, I can't really explain it).  Anybody else out there have it and have any thoughts?

The Angell exotic staff sent us a condolence card about Ronan.  It was very thoughtful of them and made me cry, though sort of a happy cry because clearly Ronan touched everybody.  Seti seems to have adjusted already to life with just us, and I think we're going to keep it that way.

Pirates 3 was ok, it was pretty to look at but it easily could have been a much better movie with about 45 minutes taken out.  But I didn't mind ogling Johnny Depp and Kiera Knightley's wardrobe for a couple of hours.

Slight panic moment yesterday with the Shimmy in the Shadows venue, had a voice mail saying "I forget where we left things--you do want the space, right?  Because I have somebody else who wants it for that date."  Aiee!  Got it all straightened out, though, and dropped off a check for the entire rental amount so everything is copacetic.

I should really get myself motivated, do a little practicing, fix the sound levels on the music I want to use tonight (the middle song is significantly quieter than the others and I don't want to count on the dj to adjust it), wash my hair, blah blah blah.  I'm on at 11pm so I have plenty of time to get ready, but I think that's lulling me into a false sense of security.  I'm looking forward to dancing tonight, it sounds like a good crowd of dancers will be there if nobody else and I'm looking forward to hanging out for a bit afterwards instead of scooting out as usual.   Man, getting out of this computer chair is difficult...
