Aug. 16th, 2006 04:48 pmMet with my mom today to go through some of my grandmother's jewelry, plus some scarves and other random things (a fake leopard fur hat, yay!) that my mom thought I would like. The scarves still smell like my grandmother. It was a bit sad, but it was also warmly nostalgic to look at her things and see her personality on them. She was a serious shopaholic, so there was a huge bin of costume jewelry to sort through; I got some Egyptian revivial stuff and some Mexican silver bracelets, along with some pieces that my grandmother expressly intended for me. One was a pin of the Boston swan boats, which she used to take me on when I was young. i remind myself that I am so glad that she was able to live her entire life on her own terms, with no extended illness or need for a caretaker.
I ended up with a mink stole/collar thing because the entire family apparently thought my ferrets would like it. They might well, but I think I'm a little too creeped out by the thought of giving them their cousin's skin to sleep on, even if it wouldn't bother the ferrets a bit. If it were rabbit or something I'd be ok with it, but mink is just too close. There was something in the news not that long ago about a wildlife rehab agency that collects old furs to use as bedding for little orphan wild animals, so I think I'll look that up and see if I can donate it.
What's the name of that German electroclashy synthpop female singer? It's been bugging the heck out of me that I can't remember, I wanted to tell M about her. Not Miz Kitten--this woman sings in German, and I think she just goes by her name, not some catchy nickname. Google is not being very helpful, at least not with the search terms I can come up with.
