Work today is a little bit of a catch-up day after a busy last couple of days. My birthday is next week so we are celebrating today when there are more people in the office (except, importantly, for our collective boss) by ordering lunch and later we will have cake. I ought not to be eating cake, but I will.

My foot still hurts, as complained about earlier this week, but it does hurt less. I'm not pushing it with the dancing this week; I'm dancing every night, but only half as much as I'd like/need to prepare for Sunday. I intensively studied my 1:46 drum solo this morning on the way to work (you can do the math to figure out how many times I listened to that 1:46 during my 45 minute commute) and wrote out some structure for it. I'm improvising more and more these days but I do need to choreograph drum solos to some extent, otherwise I just waffle around on stage and that's no good.

I ordered a pair of Wings of Isis in black sparkle organza from Ayshe this week, using anticipated birthday money. Can't wait to dance with them! I should have them three weeks before Mass Morgue and plan to use them then, maybe also for a show in Lowell I just volunteered for on Oct. 21 if I pick up using them quickly enough. happy happy happy!

Crazy weekend and week coming up:
Sat: b-day lunch with family, meet friends for their b-day drinks, OmColl party. Must also practice dancing, before drinking.
Sun: More NBDA membership stuff, create the dancers' schedule for the Hurricane Hafli, yoga class, dance, pack gear bag, dance at Middle East at 11pm
Mon: work, 2 hour class with Amira Jamal during which I will be dancing a solo, hurricane hafli meeting, Ceremony
Tues: celebrate getting older by not going to work and sleeping late, then flyering for the hafli and picking up whatever junk we might need (tablecloths, napkins, pretzels and candy, etc. if anybody has large round paper tablecloths they don't need, we'd happily accept them, any color, as well as baskets or bowls for the munchie stuff!), go out to dinner with M
Weds: work, hafli stuff, dance, create hafli program to be handed out, watch Lost season premiere!
Thurs: more of the same
Fri: don't go to work, dance, hafli stuff, Neil Gaiman signing, undecided on seeing M.I.A. at the Paradise and/or going to a party
Sat: brunch with dance friends in early pm, run around like chicken with head cut off the rest of the day
Sun: hafli! hopefully count lots of money!

Looking at my calendar, I realized that there are no Sundays in October when I will be available to dance at the Middle East :-( I guess technically I would be available by 11pm, but all my Sundays are such full days that it would be crazy to try.

I'm also going to miss every single yoga class, which makes me very sad. I think there's Thursday night class I might be able to make; I hope so, I'm addicted. DVDs are just no substitute, although I am working with a good one right now: Om Yoga with Cyndi Lee. That's the closest I've come to feeling like I do after class, although I refuse to "Om" along with the TV. There's something just inherently wrong with that. I did a shoulder stand for the first time last night and was amazed at its relative albeit wobbly success. Afterwards I had an odd feeling in my lower back, I couldn't tell whether I had opened things up in a good way or caused myself injury. Today my back feels very solid though, so I'm thinking it's the former. Still, I probably should not being doing these without an instructor in the room, so I won't.

Let's see, anything else... I watched The Sheik, the old silent Rudolph Valentino movie, last night. It was interesting. In some ways it was the purest Orientalist dreck, and I'm sure entire volumes have been written about that. Yet the stars did have an undeniable chemistry that provoked some forgiveness in this viewer. I also wondered, watching the extras, who these people were and how much of it was filmed on anything like location. Guess I'll have to look all that up. Oh, and the dancing was laughable. Lots of floaty arm waving and high-kicking with nary a movement between the shoulders and knees, except for one dancer seen very briefly at the end. Glad I saw it, anyway.

I ordered the wild mushroom calzone. Does that sound anything like meat lovers calzone? No, it doesn't. Is it in any way an acceptable substitute? No, it isn't.

Guess I'm waiting a bit longer for lunch...
